Jewelry Care

Your jewelry is designed to be worn, loved, and treasured for years to come. With the right care and a little attention, you can help preserve its beauty, shine, and finish for a long time.

Although precious metals and gemstones are durable, they are not completely indestructible. Everyday activities, accidental impacts, chemicals, moisture, and excessive pressure can cause scratches, bends, loose stones, or changes to the finish. A little preventative care can go a long way toward keeping your favorite pieces looking beautiful.

Jewelry can experience more wear and tear than you may realize during everyday activities. We recommend removing your jewelry before exercising, playing sports, gardening, cleaning, working with tools, lifting heavy objects, swimming, bathing, showering, or performing activities that involve heavy gripping or pressure.

Strong impact or repeated pressure can bend delicate metal components, loosen stones, or damage fine details. When wearing rings, bracelets, necklaces, or earrings, always be mindful of how they come into contact with hard surfaces and other objects.

Many everyday products can affect the appearance and finish of jewelry. Try to avoid direct contact with perfumes, fragrances, lotions, creams, hair sprays, makeup, hand sanitizers, household cleaning products, chlorine, and strong soaps or detergents. These products may leave a film on the surface or, with repeated exposure, affect certain metals and finishes.

Apply perfumes, lotions, and beauty products first, allow them to dry, and then put your jewelry on.

Water itself does not necessarily damage every type of jewelry, but frequent exposure to soaps, shampoos, hard water, chlorine, and other chemicals can gradually affect its appearance. To help maintain the original shine of your jewelry, remove it before showering, bathing, swimming, using a hot tub, or washing dishes.

We also recommend removing delicate jewelry before sleeping. Repeated movement and friction can place unnecessary stress on delicate pieces. Necklaces can become tangled, earrings can catch on bedding, and small prongs or delicate components can be pulled or bent. Keep your jewelry in a safe, designated location when you are not wearing it.

Rings are exposed to a considerable amount of daily contact because our hands are constantly moving and touching different surfaces. Avoid wearing delicate rings while lifting heavy objects, exercising, gardening, cleaning, moving furniture, using tools, or doing heavy manual work.

If your ring feels loose, spins excessively, or no longer fits comfortably, have the size checked. A properly fitted ring can help reduce unnecessary movement and pressure on the metal.

Try to touch your jewelry as little as possible, especially the surface of gemstones. Our hands naturally carry oils, moisture, and dirt. Frequent touching can leave fingerprints and residue on gemstones and polished metal. When putting on or removing a ring, hold it gently by the band instead of touching the gemstone whenever possible.

Regular cleaning is one of the easiest ways to keep your jewelry looking fresh and beautiful. For most everyday jewelry, gentle cleaning with mild soap and lukewarm water is sufficient.

Mix a small amount of mild dish soap with lukewarm water. Avoid very hot water and strong household cleaning chemicals. Place the jewelry in the solution for a few minutes, then gently clean around the setting, underneath the gemstone, and along the metal using a very soft-bristled toothbrush or jewelry brush.

Pay special attention to areas where dirt and residue can accumulate. Rinse the jewelry carefully with clean lukewarm water and always make sure the drain is covered or use a bowl when rinsing small jewelry pieces. Pat the jewelry dry using a clean, soft microfiber or lint-free cloth and allow it to dry completely before storing it.

Gemstones can be durable, but each stone has different physical properties. Avoid exposing gemstone jewelry to unnecessary impact, extreme temperature changes, or harsh chemicals. Do not use aggressive brushes or abrasive materials, as they may scratch polished surfaces or damage delicate settings.

If your jewelry contains gemstones, occasionally inspect the setting carefully. Look for loose or moving stones, bent prongs, damaged clasps, gaps around stones, scratches, or unusual damage. If you notice anything unusual, stop wearing the piece until it has been inspected by a professional. Continuing to wear jewelry with a damaged setting may increase the risk of losing a gemstone.

How you store your jewelry is just as important as how you wear it. Store individual pieces separately whenever possible. Different pieces rubbing against each other can cause scratches, tangling, or surface damage.

Keep your jewelry in a clean, dry jewelry box or pouch when it is not being worn. Soft-lined compartments are ideal for protecting delicate pieces. Keep necklaces and chains fastened when storing them to reduce tangling. For particularly delicate chains, individual pouches or compartments are recommended.

Store jewelry away from excessive humidity and moisture. A cool, dry environment is generally better for long-term storage.

Even with regular home care, professional inspection can be beneficial from time to time. A professional jeweler can check the condition of the metal, gemstone settings, prongs, clasps, and other delicate components. Professional cleaning can also help remove buildup from areas that are difficult to reach at home.

If your jewelry has been exposed to significant impact or you notice a loose stone, damaged prong, bent metal, or broken clasp, have it inspected before wearing it again.

Jewelry often carries more than just beauty — it can hold memories, milestones, and meaningful moments. With proper care, mindful wearing, regular cleaning, and safe storage, you can help preserve the beauty of your favorite pieces for years to come.

Treat your jewelry gently, give it the care it deserves, and it will continue to shine through every special moment.
